Q1) What type of loft ladder do I need?
A1) You need one that easily fits in the space you have with your existing loft hatch, and on the landing so that the angle of the steps is not too steep and you can climb into the loft without climbing over any large brackets. Check the loft space clearances required to store the thing when not in use and make sure there are no roof trusses that will prevent a good installation. After that its really down to price but personally I’d go for either a two or three section aluminium one depending on space available. A two section is best value and less likely to go wrong, the 3 section ones are nicer though.

Folding loft ladders are also available, in several designs. Some fold up, like folding attic ladders, into the ceiling. Others may telescope, compacting when they are not in use.
That is very true. As well as sliding, concertina and loft stairs!
